WESTERGAARD PROBLEM – VERIFICATION AND FINITE ELEMENT MODELING

Abstract: The present paper is dedicated to verification the analytical formulae of so called Westergaard problem (moderately thick plate resting on elastic foundation, subjected to standard load by vehicle wheel) by the finite element method. The following aspects were considered: assumptions and definition of the problem, calibration of the FEM model, comparison of the FEM and analytical solutions, proposition of the correct solutions useful for practical design of concrete pavements.
