The paper concerns the possibility of determination of the coefficient of permeability of cohesive soils on
the basis of various approaches. In case of field tests only methods based on nondestructive static probes
were described since they do not require any borehole and thus administrative work. Special attention was
drawn to proper adjustment of a laboratory method to the soil kind. It refers to direct and indirect methods as
well. Test conditions which should be fulfilled to ensure the proper quality of a test results were emphasized.
Exemplified results which show change in permeability characteristics due to small differences in granulometry
of soil were presented.
