THE EFFICIENCY OF WASTEWATER TREATMENT IN HORIZONTAL SUBSURFACE FLOW CONSTRUCTED WETLANDS
Keywords: bed media, BOD5, domestic wastewater, reed bed
Abstract: Constructed wetlands are commonly used for suspended solids and BOD5 removal from wastewater. The most popular system is horizontal subsurface fl ow constructed wetland with the significant share of systems based on Kickuth licence. Long term treatment efficiency monitoring data for two reed beds are presented. The decrease of BOD5 reduction from wastewater has been observed during the monitoring period. Signifi cant role of permeability of the soil used for bed construction has been pointed out. Key words: bed media, BOD5, domestic wastewater, reed bed
