USE OF FLAT DILATOMETER TESTS IN SLOPE STABILITY ANALYSIS
Keywords: safety factor, flat dilatometer test, organic soils, staged embankment
Abstract: The paper presents slope stability analysis of main dam embankment of Nielisz reservoir. Due to large thickness of organic soils deposited at the construction site and spatial variability of soft soil properties the structure was constructed in two stages with additional preloading fills. This paper presents slope stability analysis based on extensive field and laboratory tests executed before and during embankment construction by Department of Geotechnical Engineering of Warsaw University of Life Sciences. Calculations were carried out for each stage of embankment execution with use of limit equilibrium methods and were restricted only to construction phase of the structure. Special attention was paid to signifi cant effectiveness of flat dilatometer tests in undrained shear strength determination and it’s usefulness in slope stability analysis.
